Why kids size charts disagree
Line up four size charts and you get four answers for the same foot. None of them are lying; they are measuring different things.
When we built our size tables we checked every number against the manufacturers' own charts, and the charts disagreed with each other on the first afternoon. Viking says EU 27 fits a foot of 17.3 to 17.8 cm. An international conversion chart puts the same size at 16.5 cm. Kuoma will not name a foot length at all, only the boot's inside: 176 mm.
The explanation is boring and useful: some charts describe the foot that should buy the size, growing room included. Some describe the bare foot the size corresponds to on paper. Some describe the shoe itself. Same size number, three different rulers.
How to stay sane
Trust millimetres over size numbers, and the brand's own chart over any converter, ours included. A conversion table gets you to the right shelf; the final call belongs to the measured foot plus 15 mm. That order of operations never loses.
